Have some questions?
Does the child need to have a diagnosis?
Our resources can be used as soon as a neurodevelopmental condition is suspected.
What about post-diagnosis?
Which neurodevelopmental conditions does EPIC support?
The principles of EPIC apply to all children but are particularly relevant to to children who are suspected to have Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), are autistic, have DCD/Dyspraxia and those born prematurely.
We do not focus on any one condition, because all children are individuals and their strengths and difficulties can vary in ways that are not tied to their diagnosis. Indeed some children receive multiple diagnoses (e.g. both autism and ADHD).
Is it just stuff for me to read?
There are guides that you can read, watch or listen to. But there are also regular live support calls with our team, where you can ask questions and monthly webinars with experts on topics such as eating or sleep.
How much time does it take?
The EPIC materials are flexible and can be used in various ways. People work through the activities in different ways and at different speeds, so it is difficult to estimate timings.
But if you push me to say, then 30 minutes – 1 hour spread across the week, would be enough to understand the materials and ways to use them.
The materials for parents/teachers are presented in short bites, and can be watched as a video, listened to as audio and/or read, depending on your preference.
The Q & A support calls take place at a specific time, but questions can be submitted in advance and recordings will be provided.
Feedback from parents is that our materials are easy to integrate into everyday life.
Teachers have told us that they fit well into health and wellbeing sections of their curriculum.
At the start, we encourage you to practice the skills through games, and later integrate them into everyday activities. So it shouldn’t feel like a chore!
Will I need to buy anything extra?
We encourage you to use the toys, games, activities and materials that you/the child already have. However, we sometimes give suggestions for how to use games like ‘4 in a row’ and snakes and ladders, or activities that use things like sticky notes. These are not compulsory. We are always happy to suggest alternatives and ways to use what you already have.
Who is EPIC not for?
The EPIC method is based on conversation and games. If your child has very low verbal abilities or is unable to engage at all with games of any kind, the EPIC tools may not be right for you just now. Perhaps revisit us in a few years time?
But don’t worry if conversation or games are just a little out of the ordinary for you – we have tips and suggestions to help and you can always ask us for more advice at a live online Q&A session.
